Good peatland governance to strenghten economic, social and ecosystem resilience

Wednesday, 15 Nov 2017 16:45 – 18:15 Meeting Room 10, Bonn Zone.

Despite the growing momentum to mobilize governments, international organizations, and academia in a targeted effort to protect peatlands, there is still a need for more countries to become aware of the importance of action to prevent the loss of peatlands.

Countries urgently need to pay attention to peatlands as a significant source of potential carbon emissions. Indonesia with its massive tropical peatlands will share concrete experiences in advancing efforts to restore and protect peatlands from loss and degradation with other key tropical peatland countries and other members of the Global Peatlands Initiative (GPI).

The first Global Rapid Response Assessment on Peatlands, a joint effort of the members of the Global Peatlands Initiative to harmonize data for better policymaking, will be launched during the event.
